Every year is a reminder that the true force behind animal welfare isn’t just the care we provide—it’s the people who make that care possible. In 2024, thanks to your generosity, compassion, and trust, we were able to make an even greater difference in the lives of pets and the families who love them. 

Last year, we focused on keeping pets with their families, expanding access to care, and advancing knowledge in animal welfare. From Urgent Foster Care and community programs to Pop-Up Clinics in underserved areas, we reached thousands of animals and their families, helping them stay healthy, safe, and connected. Our research, training, and innovations are shaping conversations about veterinary care across North America. 

2024 by the Numbers

Some highlights from the year include: 

• 27,871 families supported through community programs, behaviour support, veterinary services, Urgent Care, and our Pet Food Bank. 
• 18 Pop-Up Clinics delivered essential veterinary care directly to underserved communities. 
• Over 155,000 pounds of pet food distributed to help families care for their pets. 
• $3.5 million in below-market-rate veterinary care, ensuring pets received critical treatment. 
• 7,639 surgeries performed, including spay/neuter and urgent, lifesaving procedures. 
• 1,260 animals adopted into loving homes and 166 reunited with their families. 
• 1,647 animals cared for in our shelter programs. 
• Nine peer-reviewed publications and Canada’s first veterinary social work practicum, advancing animal care across North America. 

Looking Ahead

In 2025, we are building on these achievements with a multi-year strategic plan that will expand services, strengthen partnerships, and increase our capacity to improve the lives of animals. Together, we will continue creating compassionate, evidence-based solutions that prevent suffering and keep pets with the people who love them.
